What can you expect from the Platinum Set? For starters “The Rocket” really responds in surprising ways to rolling in different voltage gain tubes (v1). And for this Set we’ve chosen the Sylvania/Philips 6922, which is a high spec’d preamp tube that does everything really well, has excellent clarity and a very nice clean, clear and crisp treble or the 3 c’s as I used to say in my early Tube Lab’s.
The NEVZ 6N6P is probably “the best” unknown vintage tube, it does a great job no matter what the circuit is that we plug it into. But if it does one thing extremely well, it’s probably as a Cathode Follower. The reason is, the current pushing capability of this tube far exceeds the demands of The Rocket circuit – but that’s a good thing!
