The Gold Set includes three (3) NOS (new old stock) tubes. They are Tested and Section Matched. In addition because the Cathode Follower stage pushes current, the 6N6P is current matched (mA).

v1 & v2 Sylvania 7F7 (early version) rebased as an octal 6SL7GT, all Sylvania 6SL7’s share the warm/rich midrange that Sylvania octal tubes are famous for, the earlier the version the warmer the sonics. Note depending on availability we’ll send either the first generation full chrome dome version or the 2nd generation with full chrome cap.
v3 NEVZ 6N6P, if my keyboard had a crown symbol, i’d probably place it after 6N6P, it’s truly the King of unknown vintage tubes.

What can you expect from the Gold Set? For starters rolling in tubes to v1 & v2 can make a big difference sonically and this shouldn’t be a surprise when you realize that each tube has two high gain stages and in between those gain stages is the passive RIAA EQ circuit.

For v3, we’re using the NEVZ 6N6P, which is probably “the best” unknown vintage tube, it does a great job no matter what the circuit is that we plug it into. But if it does one thing extremely well, it’s probably as a Cathode Follower. The reason is, the current pushing capability of this tube far exceeds the demands of circuit – but that’s a good thing!
